Peugeot 4008 Incorrect Fuel Composition Error

Alright Peugeot gurus, I'm pulling my hair out here! My 2015 Peugeot 4008 diesel is throwing a fit. Got 282102 km on the clock and now the check engine light is mocking me constantly. The main issue is an incorrect fuel composition error. What's worse, the engine randomly stalls at idle, which is super fun at stop lights. I plugged in my OBD reader and it confirms the error is stored in the memory. I've checked the fuel filter, and it seems okay. Could it be a dodgy sensor messing with the fuel mixture? I'm trying to avoid an expensive trip to the mechanic if I can help it!

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Peugeot 4008 diesel with 282,102 km is experiencing an incorrect fuel composition error, causing the check engine light to activate and the engine to stall at idle. The issue may be due to a faulty sensor or connection affecting the fuel mixture. After checking the fuel filter and considering potential causes, it was determined that a corroded connector on the fuel composition sensor was the problem. Cleaning and replacing the plug resolved the error.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Incorrect fuel composition, eh? Could be a few things. Have you noticed any change in your fuel economy lately? When was the last time you checked for engine knock?

Good questions! Fuel economy seems slightly worse, but nothing drastic. As for engine knock, I haven't specifically checked for it. How would I go about checking for that, and what does it tell us in this case?

If the fuel economy is down even a little bit that could indicate the computer is compensating for an incorrect mixture, and might save you from needing new injectors. The knock would happen if the fuel is combusting at the wrong time. But given the stalling and the error code, I'd lean towards a faulty connection like a bad cable or plug. You may be able to find it yourself, but honestly, a workshop is probably the quickest way to get to the bottom of it.

Thanks for the help! Took it to my local shop, and you were spot on – turned out to be a corroded connector on the fuel composition sensor. They cleaned it up and replaced the plug, and the error's gone. Total cost was 95€. Appreciate the guidance!
