Peugeot 406 ABS Fault

Alright, I'm scratching my head on this one. I've got a 2004 Peugeot 406, diesel engine, with almost 300,000 km on the clock. Recently, the ABS lamp lights up intermittently, and I'm experiencing traction problems. It feels like the ABS system is failing completely at times. I'm suspecting it's something to do with the speed signal, but I'm not sure where to start looking. Any ideas?

Speed signal fault, huh? Hmm, when the ABS lamp comes on, does it happen at a particular speed, or is it random? And does it affect anything else, like the speedometer? Have you checked the ABS sensors themselves? They might be dirty or damaged, or the wiring could be corroded.

Thanks for the quick reply! It seems pretty random when the light comes on; no particular speed. The speedometer seems fine, which is weird. I haven't checked the sensors directly yet; is there an easy way to test them without specialized equipment?

If the speedometer is working okay, then it might not be the sensors themselves. It could be the control unit; those are known to go bad on older Peugeots. You're probably looking at a trip to a workshop to properly diagnose the issue. They'll be able to check the ABS module and transmission input. Sorry I can't offer a simpler solution!

Thanks. I appreciate the input. I took it to the workshop, and they confirmed the affected control unit was defective. The repair, including parts and labor, came out to around 1000€. Not ideal, but at least it's fixed now.
