Peugeot 406 Dead Audio System
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Peugeot 406 owner reported a completely non-functional audio system, with the radio and CD player silent despite the fuses being intact. A diagnostics tool indicated a display-related error, and the volume control was unresponsive. A similar issue was resolved by replacing or repairing the defective display unit, which was confirmed as the cause in this case, leading to a successful repair at a workshop.

The display seems normal, shows all the usual info, but there is an error stored. It's just the audio that's completely dead. No crackling from the speakers, nothing. Did you have the same thing? And what was the fix?

Yep, sounds exactly like what happened to me. In my case, it turned out to be a defective display unit causing the whole audio system to shut down. You're probably looking at getting it replaced or repaired. Honestly, I'd take it to a workshop; messing with the display can be tricky.

Thanks for the heads-up! I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on – the display was the culprit. Ended up costing me 725€ for the repair, but at least I have tunes again. Cheers!

Whoa, that sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my 406. Is the display itself acting weird, or is it just the audio that's gone?
