Peugeot 406 Diesel (2003): Loss of power, Check Engine light comes on and unusual driving behavior - quantity drift compensation problem?

Hey guys, I have a strange problem with my 2003 Peugeot 406 Diesel. There is a loss of power, the Check Engine light is on, the engine switches itself off from time to time, it jerks when accelerating, the car won't start, fuel consumption seems to be increased, and it wobbles at idle. I suspect that the quantity drift compensation needs to be reset. Do you have any tips on where I could start? I am particularly interested in your workshop experience, how did you solve this problem? I would be grateful for any tips.

Hi mate, I had a similar problem with my 2005 Peugeot 407 diesel, so a slightly newer model of your make. I wouldn't consider myself a car mechanic, but I do have some experience with cars. It definitely sounds like a problem with the injectors. It was the same with my car, they weren't tuned. I had to go to the garage and have it done there. The repair wasn't that expensive, to be precise, it only cost me 45 euros. Can you perhaps tell me a bit more about your car? Any additional info could help me give better advice. Hope this helps you a bit!

Hey, thanks for your info! That really sounds like something that could be the case with me. My 406 has done 46024 KM so far, the last service was recently, nothing special was found. I think I'll take it to the garage and have the injectors checked. Thanks again for your tip!

No problem, man! I'm glad I was able to help you out. Yeah, that definitely sounds like a similar problem with the injectors that I had too. 46024 KM is actually not a lot for a diesel, so the engine should still have plenty of juice. Nevertheless, injectors do break and need to be replaced or tuned. It's good that it hasn't been long since your last service, that rules out many other problems. I hope it's just the injectors, that would be the best news. Let me know how it went and if that solved your problem. Good luck at the workshop!

Hey, thanks for your further assessments! I'm also relieved that it could just be the injectors and not something more serious. I'll definitely get back to you as soon as I've been to the garage and know more. It would be nice if it really is just that. Then an inexpensive solution is on the cards. Thanks again for taking the time to help me! Bye!
