Yes, the engine light is on, though intermittently. I haven't had a chance to scan for codes yet. Fuel efficiency has definitely taken a hit, down about 15%. Was your issue definitely the DPF? Did you experience similar fuel efficiency problems before tackling the exhaust system?

Definitely the DPF. The fuel efficiency drop was a big clue, plus the smoke, of course. Get the codes read, but honestly, those symptoms point strongly to a blocked or damaged DPF. It might be worth getting a professional diagnosis. I took mine straight to a shop – saved a lot of headache.

Thank you for the confirmation and advice! I took it to the shop as you suggested. Turns out you were spot-on - defective DPF. A costly repair, 1550€ all told, but at least she's running smoothly again. Appreciate the insights!

I had something similar with my 406. Does the engine light come on? Reduced power and smoke definitely sounds like the DPF. Have you checked for any error codes? It could be a sensor, but those usually throw up a code pretty quickly. What kind of fuel efficiency are you getting?
