Peugeot 406 electric steering column fault
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Peugeot 406 owner reported a defect in the electric steering column adjustment, with an error stored in the system and the inability to adjust the column electrically. The issue was suspected to be due to a defective cable or plug connection. Suggestions included checking related fuses and, if unresolved, inspecting for loose connections or corroded wires in the steering column wiring harness. The problem was ultimately traced to a defective cable connection, which was repaired.

Thank you for your suggestion. I will investigate the fuses. Can you recall if your issue eventually required more extensive repairs beyond the fuse check?

In my case, after checking the fuses (which were fine), the problem persisted. I took it to a workshop. They found a loose connection and some corroded wires in the steering column wiring harness. They cleaned everything up and secured the connections. If the fuses don't solve it, a workshop might be the best course.

I appreciate your assistance. It was indeed a defective cable connection. The repair cost was 95€. Thank you again.

I had a similar issue with my Peugeot 406, though it's not the same year. The electric steering acted up, and the error codes pointed to a connection problem. I'm no mechanic, but did you check all the fuses related to the steering system? It might be a simple fix before digging deeper.
