Peugeot 406 fuel tank ventilation leak
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Peugeot 406 diesel was experiencing a check engine light and occasional stalling at idle, particularly when warm. The diagnostic pointed to a fuel tank ventilation system leak, with suspicion on the activated charcoal filter being defective. After replacing the charcoal filter, the issues were resolved, eliminating the check engine light and improving engine performance.

Thanks for the quick reply! Do you remember what exactly was wrong with the purge valve, and how did you figure it out?

The valve was stuck open, constantly drawing vapors from the tank. A mechanic diagnosed it using a smoke test. If the charcoal filter doesn't solve it, take it to a workshop to check the valve and the pressure sensor.

Thanks a lot for the info! It turned out to be the charcoal filter, just like I suspected. Replaced it, and the check engine light is gone, and the engine runs smoothly now. Cost me 275€, but it was worth it!

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms in my old Opel Astra. Check engine light and rough idling. In my case, it was a faulty purge valve causing vacuum issues in the fuel tank.
