Peugeot 406 Gear Shift Indicator Problem

Hello. I have a 2003 Peugeot 406 with a gasoline engine. My gear shift indicator display is malfunctioning. Symptoms include the inability to engage gears, implausible shifting of the automatic transmission, gearbox slippage/unclean shifts, grinding noises, stored error codes, and a non-functional gear selection display. Could this be related to a defective control unit? Has anyone else experienced this?

Sounds familiar. I also have a 406, automatic, and I once had gear selection issues. Was yours also intermittent at first?

Yes, it started intermittently. Eventually, it got worse and the display was just dead. Turned out to be a control unit issue. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop to confirm.
