Peugeot 406 Intermittent Starting Issue

When you experienced this with your Saab, was the problem intermittent, or consistent? I’m trying to see if the intermittent nature of my Peugeot's symptoms aligns with a similar ignition switch fault. Any more details regarding the Saab's behaviour before confirming the ignition switch?

Yep, it was intermittent at first, then got progressively worse. Sometimes it would start fine, other times nothing. Eventually, it got to the point where it wouldn't start at all. Based on what you're describing, it sounds like the ignition switch is the most probable cause. I suggest taking it to a trusted workshop.

Following your recommendation, I had the car inspected; the ignition switch was faulty. Replacing the switch, including labour, cost 52€. The engine now starts reliably, and the intermittent stalling issue is resolved. Thanks; your insights were invaluable.

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms on my old Saab 9-3. Check your ignition switch. A failing switch can cause all sorts of weird electrical gremlins, especially with the dashboard lights flickering or the engine cutting out unexpectedly. Does the dashboard light come on when you turn the key?
