Peugeot 406 Jerking and Loss of Power

My 2003 Peugeot 406 diesel is jerking during acceleration and the check engine light is on. The OBD scanner shows an error. The engine has lost power, stalls when idling, runs rough, and there's a strong exhaust smell. I suspect an intake manifold leak due to scorching. Anyone else had this?

I had a similar problem with my 406. Jerking, loss of power... sounds familiar. Have you checked the manifold pressure? A vacuum leak can cause havoc. Is the rough running constant, or does it come and go? What error code did the scanner show?

I'm not sure how to check the manifold pressure myself. Can you elaborate? The rough running is worse when the engine is cold, but persists even after it warms up. The error code indicated an issue with the manifold pressure, confirming my leak suspicion.

Checking manifold pressure isn't easy if you're not familiar. Given the symptoms and the error code, it's best to take it to a trusted mechanic. It sounds like a leaky intake manifold due to scorching. It could become a bigger problem if left unchecked.
