Peugeot 406 Jerking and Loss of Power
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Peugeot 406 diesel is experiencing jerking during acceleration, loss of power, stalling when idling, rough running, and a strong exhaust smell, with the check engine light on. An OBD scanner indicates an error related to manifold pressure, suggesting a possible intake manifold leak due to scorching. The recommended solution is to have a mechanic inspect and repair the intake manifold to prevent further issues.

I'm not sure how to check the manifold pressure myself. Can you elaborate? The rough running is worse when the engine is cold, but persists even after it warms up. The error code indicated an issue with the manifold pressure, confirming my leak suspicion.

Checking manifold pressure isn't easy if you're not familiar. Given the symptoms and the error code, it's best to take it to a trusted mechanic. It sounds like a leaky intake manifold due to scorching. It could become a bigger problem if left unchecked.

I took my Peugeot to the workshop. The intake manifold was defective due to scorching, as suspected. The total repair cost was 1180€ Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I had a similar problem with my 406. Jerking, loss of power... sounds familiar. Have you checked the manifold pressure? A vacuum leak can cause havoc. Is the rough running constant, or does it come and go? What error code did the scanner show?
