Summary of the thread
A 2002 Peugeot 406 diesel exhibited symptoms such as a check engine light, reduced power, poor response, and increased fuel consumption. The suspected causes were a faulty manifold pressure sensor and a significant vacuum leak. After consulting a mechanic, the issues were confirmed, and both the sensor and the leak were addressed, restoring the vehicle's performance.

The power loss is worst during acceleration and uphill. Engine feels less responsive, especially at low RPMs. What was the exact issue you had, and how did you fix it?

Yep, sounds about right! Mine was the manifold pressure sensor. Cleaning didn't help. Honestly, get it checked by a professional. Save yourself the headache!

Took it to a mechanic, and it was the manifold pressure sensor, big vacuum leak like I thought. Replaced the sensor and fixed the leak, cost 235€. Back to normal now. Thanks for the help!

Hey, I had something similar on my 406. Check engine light, felt sluggish, and fuel bills went crazy! Was the power loss constant, or just at certain speeds?
