Peugeot 407 Brake Light Failure

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2006 Peugeot 407 (gasoline engine). The brake lights aren't working, and the infotainment system displays an error message. The error memory also stores a fault. Mileage is 252434 km. Could it be a faulty brake light switch? I've checked the bulbs, and they seem fine. It's incredibly frustrating!

I had a similar issue with my 2012 Opel Astra. Same symptoms – faulty brake lights and an error message. In my case, it was a bad brake light switch. Is the error consistently present, or does it come and go?

The error appears consistently. When the engine starts, the error message is displayed immediately, and the brake lights don't work. The error memory also consistently stores the same fault. Are you suggesting it's almost certainly the brake light switch? The symptoms you describe mirror mine, and this gives me hope.

Given the consistency of the error, it does sound like the brake light switch. Diagnosing car issues can be tricky. It's best to have it checked at a workshop to confirm the fault. They can properly diagnose the issue and replace the switch if needed.

Thanks for the advice. I inspected the brake pedal area, and the switch had simply become dislodged from its mounting. Reattaching it resolved the issue, and the error message disappeared. The repair cost was 0€. The switch simply wasn't making contact!
