Peugeot 407 EGR Valve Issue

Hi, I've got a 2006 Peugeot 407, diesel engine, with about 63k km on the clock. I'm having some issues that point to a defective EGR valve. Getting reduced engine power, the check engine light is on, and seeing smoke when accelerating. Also, the engine runs rough, fuel consumption is up, and there's some jerking and a loud hissing sound when I accelerate. Does this sound like a jammed EGR to you?

Sounds familiar! I had similar symptoms on my old Vauxhall Astra. Check engine light, rough running, the whole shebang. Have you noticed any difference in performance when the engine is cold versus warm?

Good point. Yes, it seems to be a little better when the engine is cold, but the symptoms are still there. Why do you ask?

Because with my Astra, the problem was definitely the EGR valve. It got progressively worse as the engine warmed up. Based on what you're describing, I'd say get it checked by a workshop, probably the EGR valve needs replacement.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were right, it was the EGR valve. Replaced it for 355€. Runs like new again.
