Peugeot 407 oil pressure warning light
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Peugeot 407 with 288,848 km displayed an intermittent oil pressure warning light. The issue was suspected to be caused by engine oil contamination due to exceeding the maintenance interval. The solution involved taking the car to a workshop for an oil change and engine flush, which resolved the problem.

The oil color appears darker, and I realize that the maintenance interval has been exceeded. Could this be the primary cause?

Yep, exceeding the maintenance interval is almost certainly the culprit. Dark, sludgy oil starves the engine. Continuing to drive it could lead to serious engine damage. Honestly, I'd get it to a workshop ASAP. They'll flush the system and hopefully catch it before it's too late.

I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed the oil contamination due to the extended maintenance interval. The repair involved an oil change and engine flush, costing 165€.

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had a similar scare with my 407. Does the oil look sludgy or darker than usual when you check it? Has the oil change interval been stretched?
