Peugeot 407 Overheating
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Peugeot 407 diesel is experiencing overheating issues and takes a long time to warm up. The initial suspicion is a faulty thermostat. Suggestions include checking for leaks in the thermostat housing, ensuring the cooling fan is functioning properly, and examining the temperature sensor. Ultimately, the problem is identified as a faulty map thermostat, which is resolved by a workshop repair.

Thanks! Leaks, no. How would I know if the cooling fan is faulty? Is it easy to check the temperature sensor or the map thermostat?

A faulty cooling fan usually makes a lot of noise. The temperature sensor signals temperature to the ECU. It's difficult to say without proper equipment. Considering the symptoms, it might be the map thermostat as you suspected. To be safe, I'd advise taking it to a workshop to get it properly diagnosed.

Cheers, will do that. I suspected the thermostat anyway. I'll let you know what happens after it's been to the workshop. It was indeed the map thermostat, cost 350€ to fix. All good now!

I had similar overheating issues with my Peugeot 407 (diesel, too). Have you checked the thermostat housing for any leaks? Also, is your cooling fan kicking in properly? These cars can be sensitive to temperature control issues. Thermostat housing is where the thermostat is located, it might be worth looking at the temperature sensor too.
