Peugeot 407 Power Steering Problem
Summary of the thread
The conversation revolves around a power steering problem in a 2011 Peugeot 407, characterized by a vibrating steering wheel, spongy handling, and intermittent power steering assistance. The initial suspicion was a faulty cable or plug connection. Suggestions included checking the hydraulic fluid level, inspecting the pressure hose for leaks, and considering potential steering pump failure due to wear. Ultimately, the issue was resolved by fixing a faulty connection at a workshop.

Thanks for the tips! I'll check the fluid level and hoses. By 'specific error', do you mean the exact code number? I'd also like to know what you mean with steering pump failure, what could lead to it?

Yeah, the code number helps a lot for diagnosis. As for the pump failing, they can wear out internally over time especially with that mileage. Vanes inside wear down, reducing pressure. If the fluid level is fine and there are no visible leaks, a failing pump or a dodgy connection are your best bets. Honestly, with steering, I'd suggest a workshop visit. Safety first, yeah?

Thanks! I appreciate the advice. Took it to the shop, and you were spot on it turned out to be a faulty connection. 95€ later and it's sorted!

Sounds like a right pain. Steering issues are never fun. Have you checked the hydraulic fluid level? Low fluid can cause those symptoms. Also, give the pressure hose a good look-over for any leaks or kinks. And while you're at it, inspect the steering pump itself for any obvious damage. Could be the start of steering pump failure, though a dodgy connection is a good shout too. Is the error code specific?
