Peugeot 407 Serpentine Belt Tensioner Failure

Having trouble with my 2006 Peugeot 407 gasoline engine. At 190560 km, the serpentine belt tensioner seems to be failing. The belt-handover no longer works, and I suspect the defective belt bringer/handover itself is the cause. Anyone seen this?

Hey! I had a similar issue on my 407. Is it making a squealing noise, especially when the engine is cold? Check the idler pulley as well; sometimes that can be the culprit. Has the belt ever slipped off?

Thanks! Yes, there's an intermittent squeal, more noticeable when the engine is first started. I'll inspect the idler pulley more closely. The belt itself hasn't slipped off completely, but it does seem misaligned. Did you also have the problem of the belt losing alignment?

Yep, sounds very familiar. The misalignment was the biggest clue for me. Honestly, with that mileage and the squealing, I'd recommend getting it checked by a workshop. Could save you from a snapped belt and bigger problems down the road. Mine ended up needing a new tensioner and belt.

I appreciate the confirmation and advice. I'll take it to a workshop for a professional inspection. It appears the repair will be in the region of 455€. Thanks again!
