Peugeot 407 Steering Vibration

Esteemed colleagues, I am writing to you today concerning a rather unsettling matter affecting my 2007 Peugeot 407, equipped with a diesel engine. With a mileage of 257808 km, the vehicle has recently begun exhibiting concerning symptoms related to the steering system. Specifically, there is a noticeable increase in the effort required when steering, almost as if the power steering assistance is intermittently failing. Compounding this, I am experiencing a disconcerting vibration/shaking emanating from the steering wheel itself. Preliminary diagnostics suggest a defect within the steering angle sensor. It would appear a coding issue is the most likely culprit, disrupting the sensor's ability to accurately relay steering input to the electronic stability program, and by extension, affecting traction control. Has any other member encountered a similar experience, and if so, what diagnostic steps did you undertake?

Steering getting heavy and vibrating? Sounds like a sensor issue could definitely be the cause messing with the power steering assist. Is the stability control light on the dash lit up at all?

Thank you for your prompt response. Indeed, the electronic stability program indicator illuminates intermittently. May I inquire as to the typical ramifications of a faulty steering angle sensor? Is complete sensor replacement invariably necessary, or are there instances where recalibration might suffice?

If the light is on, then, yeah, the sensor is almost definitely faulty. Recalibration can sometimes work, but it's a temporary fix at best. You're probably looking at a replacement, which means a visit to the workshop.

The steering angle sensor was indeed identified as defective, its replacement and subsequent coding amounted to 195€. The vehicle's steering behavior has now returned to its proper state.
