Peugeot 407 transmission oil pressure sensor fault

I'm experiencing issues with my 2008 Peugeot 407 (gasoline engine). The transmission warning light is on, and the error memory says it's a transmission oil pressure sensor fault. The gearbox occasionally enters emergency mode, slips, shifts uncleanly, and makes grinding noises. The car has 56090 km mileage. I've checked for any obvious damage, but I am not an expert. Could anyone give me a hint?

Hey! I had something similar with my 407, although I didn't check the error memory. Symptoms are very similar - slipping, unclean shifts, and the occasional 'emergency mode' warning. It was driving me nuts! I'd start by checking your gearbox oil level. Is it OK?

Thank you for your reply. I will check the gearbox oil level. Could the gearbox oil level really be the root cause of the problem? What did the issue turn out to be in your case?

Well, I'm no mechanic, but low oil can cause the pressure sensor to throw a fault. In my case, the oil level was indeed low. I topped it up, and the issue persisted for a few days, maybe because the error was still stored. Then it disappeared and everything was OK again. However, I would strongly recommend visiting a workshop. They have proper diagnostic tools to confirm the fault is not something more serious than that.

Thank you for your advice. The garage confirmed it was indeed the low oil level, which triggered the sensor fault. Topping it up and clearing the error fixed the issue. Cost me 365€, including labor and the oil. Greatly appreciated!
