Peugeot 407 Washer Fluid Warning

My 2005 Peugeot 407, diesel engine, has flagged a persistent 'washer fluid low' warning. The windshield washer system is now inoperative. The error is stored in the error memory, despite topping up the wiper fluid. Mileage is 125257 km. Any ideas?

I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra. The warning light stayed on even after refilling. I'd check the washer motor itself. It might be faulty or the connector corroded. Does the motor make any noise when you try to activate the windshield cleaning?

Thanks for the tip. I can't hear any motor noise. Where is the windshield washer motor located in the Peugeot 407?

On my Astra, it was accessible in the wheel well, behind the plastic liner. But based on your description, it seems more than just the sensor. If the motor isn't running and you've checked the fuse, I'd recommend a workshop visit. Could be a dead pump.

Thanks again. Took it to the shop. The washer motor was indeed defective. Replaced it for 25€. Windshield cleaning works again.
