Peugeot 408 AC Compressor Failure

Alright, petrolheads! My 2023 Peugeot 408, hybrid engine, is giving me grief. The AC compressor just decided to quit. Symptoms? Air conditioning system does not switch on, air conditioning no longer cools. The computer threw an error code, too. Any ideas? Checked the obvious stuff, like fuses, but I'm stumped.

Greetings. The symptoms you describe suggest a potential issue with the air conditioning system's operation. Has the vehicle undergone any recent maintenance or repairs that may be relevant? The error code stored in the memory could provide valuable insight into the root cause. Could you provide the specific error code? Have you inspected the belt tensioner for proper function? Also, consider the AC relay; a faulty relay can prevent the compressor from engaging. Finally, a refrigerant leak is another potential cause.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't had any recent work done, and I don't have the specific error code handy, unfortunately. Where exactly is the AC relay located, and how can I test it? Also, how can I check for a refrigerant leak without special tools?

While precise location of the AC relay may vary, it is typically found within the engine compartment's relay box, or sometimes under the dashboard. Consult your vehicle's repair manual for the specific location. Testing the relay generally involves using a multimeter to check for continuity and proper operation when voltage is applied. Detecting a refrigerant leak requires specialized equipment to measure pressure and detect the presence of refrigerant. It is analogous to finding a pinhole leak in a bicycle tire – difficult without proper tools. Given the complexity and potential for refrigerant release, I strongly recommend consulting a qualified technician for diagnosis and repair. Driving it for a short distance is not harmful, but continuing to drive for a long time can cause wear on the engine.

Thanks a bunch for the detailed info! Sounds like this is beyond my shade-tree mechanic skills. Took it to the shop; turned out to be undervoltage causing the compressor to shut off. They cleared the code, checked the system, and I was out the door for 240€.
