Peugeot 408 Coolant Loss

My 2012 Peugeot 408 (gasoline engine) coolant level keeps dropping like crazy, near empty every week! The check engine light is on, confirming low coolant. No visible leaks. Could it be the water pump at 199885 km, air pockets, or the cooling fan? I've checked the coolant reservoir and radiator hoses, and they seem fine.

I had a similar issue with my 408. Have you checked the weep hole on the water pump? It's a common failure point on these engines, and the leak can be slow enough that it evaporates before it hits the ground.

Weep hole? Where is it located, and is it easy to get to? Is there any trick to diagnosing a leak there, or am I just looking for moisture?

The weep hole is on the underside of the water pump. You'll probably need a flashlight and maybe a mirror to get a good look. If you see any pink crusty residue or signs of moisture, that's a sign the pump is failing. If you're not comfortable, take it to a trusted workshop. A leak in the cooling system can cause expensive engine damage if ignored.

I checked the weep hole on the water pump, and there was pink crust everywhere! Took it to the shop, new water pump installed, and all is well. Repair cost 52€. No more coolant issues. You saved me a ton of grief!
