Peugeot 408 fuel pressure regulator issue

I've got a 2010 Peugeot 408, gasoline engine, and lately it's been a nightmare. The check engine light is on constantly, the engine stalls at idle which is super annoying at stop lights, and I swear I'm getting reduced engine power. It's only done 31017 km. I'm thinking it might be the fuel pressure regulator because this all started happening right after I changed the fuel filter. Could that be related? I'm pulling my hair out here, what could cause that kind of error entry?

Summary of the thread

A 2010 Peugeot 408 owner experienced constant check engine light, engine stalling at idle, and reduced power, suspecting the fuel pressure regulator as the cause after a recent fuel filter change. The symptoms suggested a possible issue with the fuel system, particularly the fuel pressure regulator. It was recommended to have the vehicle professionally diagnosed due to the complexity and potential risks of self-diagnosis. Upon taking the car to a workshop, the issue was confirmed to be the faulty fuel pressure regulator, which was replaced, resolving the problem.

Sounds like you're in a tight spot! Yeah, changing the fuel filter and then having these issues pop up definitely points to the fuel system. Could be the fuel pressure regulator like you suspect. Have you checked the fuel rail pressure? If it's fluctuating wildly or reading way too high/low, that's a strong indicator. What kind of readings are you getting from the fuel pump?

Thanks for the reply! I haven't checked the fuel rail pressure directly, to be honest. I don't have the tools to measure that accurately. Regarding the fuel pump, how would I check that without specialized equipment? Any advice on a safe way to diagnose it?

Without the right gear, properly diagnosing the fuel pump and rail pressure is going to be tricky and potentially risky. Given that you suspect the fuel pressure regulator and the symptoms match, and this all started after the fuel filter change, I'd say bite the bullet and take it to a decent workshop. They'll have the diagnostics to pinpoint it quickly and safely. A faulty regulator could cause all sorts of grief.

You were spot on! Took it to the shop, and it was indeed the fuel pressure regulator. Apparently, there was an error entry after changing the fuel filter. They replaced it, cost me about 45€ including labor and diagnostic. Car's running smooth as butter now. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
