Peugeot 408 Fuel Tank Ventilation Leak
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Peugeot 408 hybrid exhibited an intermittent check engine light and occasional stalling, suspected to be caused by a fuel tank ventilation system leak. The issue was potentially linked to a defective activated charcoal filter within the EVAP system. This defect could impact fuel efficiency, airflow, and lead to more severe system failures. The problem was confirmed and resolved by replacing the faulty charcoal filter.

Hissing from the fuel tank? I haven't specifically listened for that. Did you experience that with your car? Could you elaborate on what you ended up finding?

Yep, that hissing was a big clue for me. It turned out to be exactly what you're thinking: the charcoal filter in the EVAP system. If your car's acting up the same way, and you get that hissing, you should probably just take it to a workshop. It's easier than chasing ghosts.

I took your advice and brought it to a trusted mechanic. It turned out to be a defective activated charcoal filter, just as we suspected. The final repair bill came to 275€. Thanks a lot!

A ventilation system leak, huh? I had something similar happen with my Peugeot 408. Check the EVAP system. What kind of airflow are you getting? Is it consistent? Is there any hissing from around the fuel tank after you've been driving?
