Peugeot 408 Heavy Steering Vibration
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Peugeot 408 owner experiences heavy steering and vibrations, suspecting a steering angle sensor issue. The power steering fluid level is fine, and no leaks are visible. A similar case suggests that a faulty steering angle sensor can cause these symptoms and affect the ESP system. The recommended solution is to have a workshop diagnose and recalibrate the sensor, which resolves the problem.

Thanks for the quick reply! No alignment issues that I'm aware of, and the ESP light hasn't come on. Is there any way to check the sensor without specialized equipment, or is it something best left to a workshop?

Honestly, without diagnostic tools, it's tough to pinpoint the issue for sure. In my case, it turned out the coding of the steering angle sensor was faulty. It messed with the power steering assist and caused the vibrations you described. A workshop can read the sensor data and recalibrate it if necessary. Better to get it checked before it causes any further issues with the steering or ESP.

Appreciate the insight! I'll book it in with a workshop to get the steering angle sensor checked out. It turns out that you were spot on with the steering angle sensor, it was defective. Repair cost was 195€. Thanks again!

Hey, I had a similar issue on my 408. The heavy steering and vibrations sound familiar. Have you had any alignment problems recently or noticed if the ESP (Electronic Stability Program) light is on? A faulty steering angle sensor can definitely cause those symptoms, and sometimes it throws off the ESP system too.
