Cheers for the reply! Coolant level seems fine, no obvious leaks. As for the water pump/cooling fan, how can I concretely check these up? Is there some kind of clear sign which indicates defectiveness?

Okay, if the coolant level is good, the water pump is harder to check without proper tools. As for the fan, if your engine's overheating pretty quickly and the fan isn't roaring like crazy, that might be a sign. However it DOES sound like that thermostat indeed. If you aren't really into cars, I advise you to take it to a shop to get it changed before you end up with a bigger problem.

Right, I'll do that, thanks for the advice! I bit the bullet and took it to a trusted mechanic. As suspected, the thermostat was defective. Got it replaced, and now the Peugeot is purring like a kitten again. Cost me 350€ Thanks again for confirming that I was going in the right direction!

Overheating and slow warm-up, eh? Sounds like classic thermostat issues. But before you condemn the thermostat outright, have you checked for any coolant leaks? A low coolant level can definitely cause overheating. Also, is the water pump working as it should? And what about the cooling fan? Is it kicking in when the engine gets hot? You might wanna look into these things.
