Peugeot 408 rough idling and stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2022 Peugeot 408 hybrid with 280,000 km is experiencing rough idling, stalling, and a check engine light, with jerking during acceleration. The initial suspicion was a defective ignition coil, despite the spark plugs appearing fine. A suggestion was made to inspect the coil pack connections for damage or corrosion, and to ensure they are tight. After taking the car to a mechanic, it was confirmed that the issue was indeed a faulty ignition coil and cable, which were replaced, resolving the problem.

Thanks for the quick response! You mentioned checking the cable and plug connections. Is there a specific way I should be checking them? Like, do I need any special tools, or is it just a visual inspection?

It's best to start with a visual inspection. Look for any obvious signs of damage, like frayed wires or corrosion. Then, make sure the connections are tight. If you have a multimeter, you could also check the continuity of the wires. Honestly, if you're not comfortable doing that, it might be worth taking it to a workshop. My Volvo ended up needing a new coil, and the diagnostic work helped pinpoint it quickly.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to a local mechanic, and you were spot on – it was indeed a defective ignition coil and the cable was faulty. They replaced it, and it cost me around 95€ including labour. The car is running smoothly now! I really appreciate the help.

I had a similar issue with my old Volvo V70, although it was a petrol engine. Those symptoms—rough running, stalling, check engine light—sound a lot like a defective ignition coil. Have you checked the cable and plug connections to the coil pack? A loose or corroded connection can cause those exact problems.
