Peugeot 5008 Cold Start Problems
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Peugeot 5008 with a diesel engine is experiencing cold start problems, running rough when cold, and increased fuel consumption. An error code indicates a potential issue with the PTC heater, which may be defective. The suggested solution is to have the PTC heater repaired, as it could be causing the symptoms by putting extra strain on the engine during cold starts. A local garage has confirmed the diagnosis and quoted a repair cost.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't checked the heater element myself, to be honest. I'm not really sure where to start looking. Is it easily accessible? And could that really be the cause of all these problems, or is it more likely to be something else?

On my Insignia, it was a pain to get to. I wouldn't recommend tackling it without some experience. But yes, a faulty heating element can definitely cause those symptoms, especially if it's related to the auxiliary heater. It's putting extra strain on the engine when it's cold. Given the error code, it's likely the culprit. I would advise getting a proper diagnosis from a reputable workshop.

Thanks for the advice. I've booked it into the local garage. They've confirmed it's the PTC heater and quoted 350€ for the repair. Fingers crossed this fixes the problem!

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Vauxhall Insignia, also a diesel. Rough running on cold starts and a noticeable dip in fuel economy. Although, my error code pointed to a different part of the HVAC system initially. Have you checked the heating element itself? Any sign of damage or corrosion?
