Peugeot 5008 TPMS Malfunction

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2011 Peugeot 5008, gasoline engine. The tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) seems to be malfunctioning. The dashboard keeps displaying a 'Tire pressure too low' error message, and the speedometer shows an error as well. I checked the error memory using an OBD2 scanner, and it confirms a fault related to the tire pressure sensor. I've manually checked all the tires using a pressure gauge, and they're all inflated correctly. Could this be a faulty sensor? I'm not very skilled at repairing cars, so any advice will be appreciated!

Summary of the thread

The issue with the 2011 Peugeot 5008 involves a malfunctioning tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), displaying a 'Tire pressure too low' error despite correct tire inflation. The problem is likely due to a faulty tire pressure sensor, possibly caused by a depleted internal battery, given the car's age. The recommended solution is to replace the sensor, as confirmed by a workshop visit, which resolved the error message.

The symptoms you describe strongly suggest a faulty tire pressure sensor. These sensors have an internal battery that eventually dies. Given the car's age and mileage (89384 km), it's plausible the sensor battery is depleted. Have you checked the air valve? A damaged air valve may cause such issues as well.

Thank you for your response! It seems very helpful. So, are you suggesting the entire sensor needs replacing when the battery is empty? And how would I check the air valve for damage, exactly? I am concerned, because I don't want to start replacing components without proper knowledge.

Yes, the sensor is typically replaced as a unit when the battery fails. Checking the valve involves visually inspecting for cracks or damage, but based on your initial description, the sensor is the likely culprit. Given your concern, it's best to visit a workshop to have the TPMS issue properly diagnosed and the faulty sensor replaced. This avoids potentially causing other issues on the car's electronic system.

Alright, thanks a lot for your advice! I followed your suggestion and took the Peugeot to a local workshop. They confirmed that the tire pressure sensor in one of the tires was indeed faulty due to a dead battery. They replaced the sensor, and the error message is now gone. The entire repair cost me about 280€ Thanks again for your help!
