Peugeot 508 ABS Fault

Wheel alignment? Hmm, hadn't thought of that! I mean, the car feels okay, but I haven't specifically had it checked. What's the connection between the alignment and the sensor? Is it a direct thing, or just something that can mess with the readings?

The connection is indirect, but significant. If the wheel alignment is outside of the manufacturer's specifications, the vehicle stability system may misinterpret the car's behavior, leading to inaccurate readings from the lateral acceleration sensor and triggering a fault. However, given your symptoms and the error code, the 'affected control unit defective' cause sounds plausible. It might be a defective control unit itself, which involves replacement and coding. I would recommend visiting a qualified workshop to have the lateral sensor diagnosed.

Thanks so much for the info! I took it to my mechanic, and you were right - it was the lateral acceleration sensor. The bad news? Needed a new control unit, and the whole thing cost me about 1000€ to fix. Ouch! But at least the ABS is working again. Really appreciate the help!

Greetings. I have a 508 as well. From your description, it does sound similar to an issue I encountered. The lateral acceleration sensor, sometimes referred to as a yaw rate sensor, is integral to the vehicle stability system. It works in conjunction with the steering angle sensor to provide data to the ABS/ESP (Electronic Stability Program) module. Have you had the wheel alignment checked recently? Incorrect wheel alignment can sometimes throw off these sensors.
