Peugeot 508 audio failure
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Peugeot 508 owner reported a complete audio failure with no sound output and an error stored in the memory. Despite checking the fuses, the issue persisted, suggesting a potential software glitch or hardware problem. The display unit was still functional, allowing access to audio settings, which pointed away from a total power failure. A local mechanic diagnosed the issue as a defective display unit, requiring replacement to resolve the audio failure.

Yeah, the display is working, and I can access the audio settings. No speaker crackle or static noise before it went silent. It just stopped suddenly. Software glitch, huh? Is there a known fix, or am I looking at something more serious?

Okay, the fact that the display and settings are still accessible points away from a complete power failure. If it were a software glitch, you'd probably see other issues as well, like the system randomly rebooting, but since the radio died instantly it sounds more hardware related. I've read online that there can be issues with the display units themselves causing audio output failures on models around that year. Best advice would be to visit a workshop and let them check the error memory. It sounds like they might need to replace the display. I am not a mechanic though, just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the input. I took it to a local mechanic, and they confirmed it's a defective display unit causing the problem. Repair cost will be around 725€. Appreciate the help!

That's odd. Completely dead audio is often a power issue, but since you checked the fuses, we can rule that out as the immediate culprit. Does the display unit itself power on? Can you access the audio settings or anything like that through the dashboard controls? Sometimes, a software glitch can cause the audio output to mute entirely. Imagine your car's audio system is like a house's electrical wiring; a fuse box issue affects the whole house immediately, whereas an appliance failure only affects one thing. Were you experiencing speaker crackle, static noise, or audio quality problems before it failed completely? If you can access the system settings, it would be useful to rule out any obvious software issues.
