Peugeot 508 Audio System Failure

My 2013 Peugeot 508 hybrid's audio system has completely stopped working. No sound from anywhere, like it's muted. I've checked the volume and tried the radio, Bluetooth – nothing. It's like someone cut the wires. The car has 172612 km on it. Any ideas?

Sounds familiar! I’ve got a 508 too. Had something similar a while back. No sound at all, complete radio silence. Did you notice any sound distortion or anything weird before it went kaput? Like a blown fuse, but for your ears!

No, no distortion or weird noises at all. It was working fine one day, and then completely silent the next. Could it really be a fuse? I thought fuses either work or they don't, not just fade out.

Fuses are usually all-or-nothing, yeah. But sometimes things can be weird with car electrics. In my case, the bass speaker was defective and took out the whole audio system. Like a dodgy Christmas tree light that takes out the whole string. If it’s not the fuse, I’d suggest getting it checked out by a workshop, especially since it’s a hybrid. Could be something playing up with the amp.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I'll check the fuses first, and if that doesn't work, I'll book it in at a workshop. You were on the right track! The workshop guys said that the bass speaker was defective and it cost me 280€ to repair.
