Thanks for the insight. Did your Audi also throw errors related to gear selection, or was it primarily affecting starting and cruise control?

Yes, the gear selection was also erratic on the dash. It all pointed back to the clutch switch. Ultimately, it's probably best to get it checked at a workshop. It's a safety issue if it's causing starting problems.

Sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my old Audi A4 – the cruise control cutting out and starting problems were the giveaways. Check the switch itself and the wiring leading to it; corrosion can be a real pain.
