Peugeot 508 Engine Overheating

The fan does not appear to be spinning at all, and the coolant level seems nominal. The overheating occurs primarily during idling or low-speed operation. Are there other probable causes to consider, given these additional details?

Okay, with the fan not spinning and the overheating happening at low speeds, a defective fan motor or its immediate wiring are the most likely culprits. While it could be something else, like a faulty temperature sensor relay, or even the fan clutch (if it has one, though most modern cars don't), the fact that it's not spinning points to the fan itself. Given all this uncertainty I'd probably suggest having a workshop take a look at it.

Thank you for the insights. I had it checked, and the issue was indeed a defective plug connection to the fan motor, costing 95€. The electric fan is now functioning correctly.

Overheating is never good. It could be a connection issue, but there are other possibilities. Is the fan not spinning at all, or does it seem weak? Have you checked the coolant level? A low coolant level can also cause overheating, even if the fan is working correctly. Also, is it overheating all the time, or just when you're idling or in stop-and-go traffic?
