Peugeot 508 fuel pump issue

My 2016 Peugeot 508 diesel is giving me headaches. 71426 km on the clock. It refuses to start sometimes, stalls at idle, and the check engine light is on. It's running rough and fuel consumption has definitely increased. Pulled the codes and it's pointing to a fuel pump issue. I've checked the obvious things – fuses look fine. Could a faulty fuel pump relay cause these intermittent problems, or is it more likely the pump itself? I even took a look at all the cable and plug connections of the component, but all seems normal to me.

I had similar symptoms with my 508. Engine stalling, check engine light, and the computer was throwing fuel pump errors. Before you spend a fortune on a new pump, have you checked the wiring harness and connector to the pump itself? These cars are known for chafing wires in that area. Could be a simple fix before replacing the whole pump.

Thanks, good point. You mean the connector right at the pump itself? Was your issue constant, or did it come and go like mine is doing? I visually inspected the connector, and the wires seemed okay, but maybe I need to look closer for damage inside the plug.

Yes, the connector right at the fuel pump. My issue was intermittent at first, making it hard to diagnose. It eventually became constant though. Give the wiring a really thorough check, wiggle the connector while the engine is running (if you can get it started), but honestly, you might want to let a workshop check the cable and plug connection. It seems that the component might be defective. In the end that's how i solved my problem.

Appreciate the insight. I'll take another look at the wiring, but i will bring my 508 to the workshop. They found that the cable and plug connection was indeed defective, and replacing it costed me 95€. It seems fixed for now. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
