Peugeot 508 Headlight Range Control Fault

I'm having a weird issue with my 2021 Peugeot 508 hybrid. I keep getting a 'Headlight Range Control Fault' error. The warning light is on, and it seems like the low beams are shining way too low sometimes, and then too high at other times! I've checked the headlight switch and all the electrical connectors I can see, but everything looks fine. Has anyone else experienced this kind of headlight malfunction? It's driving me nuts!

I had a similar problem with my 2018 Volvo V90. It also had adaptive headlights, and the auto-leveling system went haywire. Did the error code specify anything beyond just 'Headlight Range Control Fault'? Knowing the specific diagnostic trouble code (DTC) could point to a more precise cause.

I did have it scanned, and I think the error code mentioned a defective servomotor in the headlight. Does that sound like what you experienced with your Volvo? If so, how did you end up fixing it?

Yes, a defective servomotor sounds very familiar. In my Volvo, it was indeed the servomotor. Unfortunately, it meant replacing the entire headlight unit as the servomotor wasn't sold separately. Given that you have the same error code pointing to the servomotor, a visit to a trusted workshop is probably your next best step. They can properly diagnose and confirm the issue and the best course of action.

Took it to the shop, and you were spot on – defective servomotor in the headlight. Had to replace the whole unit. Cost me 1040€, ouch! But at least it's fixed. Really appreciate you sharing your experience!
