Peugeot 508 Heating Ineffective
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Peugeot 508 diesel with nearly 300,000 km is experiencing ineffective heating, and a solar sensor fault is detected in the error memory. The solar sensor is crucial for the climate control system to adjust heating based on sunlight, and its malfunction could lead to improper heat regulation. While other systems like headlights and wipers are unaffected, the issue likely lies with the solar sensor or its wiring. A visual inspection of the wiring is possible, but consulting a qualified technician is recommended for accurate diagnosis and repair.

Thanks for the quick reply! No, the headlights and wipers seem to be working fine. Is there any way to test the sensor itself, or perhaps check the wiring, before I start replacing parts? I'm comfortable with basic DIY, but not sure where to start looking for the sensor.

Okay. Given that other systems relying on ambient light are functioning, and that the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) points specifically to the solar sensor, the issue is likely isolated to that component or its immediate wiring. As you suggested a defective cable or plug connection of the component may be the cause. While you could attempt to visually inspect the wiring harness and connector, it's often difficult to pinpoint the exact fault without specialized diagnostic equipment. I recommend consulting a qualified technician. You may be looking at around 95€ for the repair.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. I will take it to a workshop and have it checked. The price you're suggesting sounds reasonable.

Hello! Yes, a faulty solar sensor can definitely affect your heating. The car's climate control system uses that sensor to adjust the heating and cooling output based on sunlight intensity. If it's malfunctioning, the system might not be regulating the heat correctly. Are you seeing any other strange behaviour with the automatic headlights or windscreen wipers? Those systems sometimes share the same sensor data.
