Thanks for the reply! I haven't checked the alternator or voltage regulator myself, to be honest, as I wouldn't know where to start. I had a quick look at the battery connections and they seem ok, although there was some corrosion on the terminals which I cleaned. Could a faulty alternator cause overvoltage even with a good battery?

Yes, a faulty alternator could definitely cause overvoltage, even with a seemingly good battery. That's because the alternator is responsible for regulating the voltage supplied to the car's electrical system while the engine is running. If the voltage regulator within the alternator fails, it can lead to excessive voltage being sent to various components, causing damage and triggering fault codes. It's best to take it to a workshop, they will check it properly!

Thanks so much! I appreciate the advice. I will book it in at a workshop to get the alternator and battery properly checked. It turned out that the battery had a defect and was replaced. The repair cost me 290€.

Wow, that sounds rough! I had a similar issue with my 508. Electrical problems can be a real headache. Overvoltage is definitely not something to ignore. Have you checked the battery connections and the alternator? Those are usually the first things to look at. Is the voltage regulator working correctly?
