Thanks for the quick response! Yes, the effort is definitely increased; I added this information to my first post, good catch! Where exactly should I be looking for these cables and plug connections? Are they easy to get to, or will I need to take half the car apart? And yes, there is an error code stored, but my cheap code reader just gives me a generic 'power steering fault' message, which isn't super helpful.

Okay, a generic power steering fault isn't ideal, but the increased effort definitely points to a similar issue as I had. About the cables and connections – unfortunately, it's not a super easy visual inspection. Accessing them might require removing some undercarriage panels. Without proper tools and experience, you might risk damaging something else. Honestly, considering the symptoms, I'd strongly advise taking it to a workshop. They can properly diagnose the cable/connection issue and check for any other underlying problems with the power steering system. Don't mess with the steering, it is quite dangerous to drive with a faulty steering system.

Thanks so much for your advice. I took it to a local mechanic, and you were spot on! It turned out to be a defective cable/plug connection, and it cost me 95€ to get it sorted. You saved me a lot of time and potential headaches!

Hello. I had a similar problem with my Peugeot 508. Is the effort required when steering increased? Did you check the cables and plug connections? It sounds to me like one of those is defective. Just a thought - have you checked the error codes? Sometimes that gives you a pretty good idea of what's going on.
