Peugeot 508 transmission fault

I'm tearing my hair out. I've got a 2015 Peugeot 508, diesel engine, and it's throwing up some proper weirdness. 171929 km on the clock. The engine management light keeps popping on, sometimes the transmission warning light too, and the error memory is screaming about a transmission oil pressure sensor fault. It's gone into limp mode a couple of times! I'm also getting some slippage and rough shifting, and even a bit of a grind when changing gear. Gearbox oil seems a bit low. Has anyone else come across this?

Sounds like a proper headache. I had something similar happen with my old Volvo V70 a few years back. Transmission was acting all sorts of possessed. Turned out to be a dodgy oil pressure sensor causing mayhem. How low is 'a bit low'? Because on my car, 'a bit low' turned into 'catastrophically low' because there was an oil leak that I was not aware of.

That's interesting. When you say 'catastrophically low', what were the symptoms exactly? I mean, were they the same as what I'm seeing? How did you finally figure it out? Did you manage to sort it yourself, or did you end up having to take it to a workshop?

Symptoms were bang on: slipping, rough shifts, the works. The Volvo even went into limp mode a couple of times just like you described. Figured it out when the transmission started making a noise like a bag of spanners! I'd get it checked out by a decent shop if I were you. Those auto boxes are sensitive bits of kit, and you don't want to bodge it and end up with a bill the size of a small car. But you better check your oil level for yourself first. It could be just that...

Took your advice and topped up the gearbox oil. No change so I took it to a local garage who plugged it in, confirmed the oil pressure sensor fault. Turns out the sensor itself was faulty AND the oil level was indeed low, probably triggered the sensor fault in the first place. New sensor, oil top-up, and a reset of the error codes... 365€ lighter, but all seems good now! Thanks again for the nudge in the right direction, much appreciated!
