Peugeot 607 Battery Drain

Hi, I'm having a strange issue with my 2000 Peugeot 607 2.2 diesel. The battery keeps draining, even after a full charge. I'm getting an error message in the speedometer, the lights are weak and flicker sometimes, and the car struggles to start. I scanned for codes and found a 'low voltage' error stored. I've checked the battery terminals, they seem clean and tight. Could a faulty battery sensor really cause all this?

Summary of the thread

The core problem discussed is a battery drain issue in a 2000 Peugeot 607 2.2 diesel, characterized by weak lights, error messages, and starting difficulties. Possible causes considered include a faulty battery sensor, a bad alternator, or an old battery. The suggested solution was to have a professional diagnosis, which ultimately revealed a faulty battery sensor as the cause, resolving the issue after replacement.

A constantly discharged battery on a 607... hmm. Weak lights and error messages definitely point to a voltage problem. Have you had the battery tested to make sure it's holding a charge properly? And what about the alternator – is it charging the battery correctly when the engine is running?

I haven't tested the alternator output specifically, but wouldn't a bad alternator usually trigger a specific charging system warning? And if the battery was simply old, would it cause these electronic glitches? I was leaning towards the battery sensor as I've heard they can cause parasitic drain, but maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree.

While a bad alternator should throw a code, sometimes they can be sneaky. But you're right, those electrical gremlins do sound like a sensor issue. Honestly, with all those symptoms and the potential for a parasitic drain, you might want to get a professional diagnosis. Could save you a lot of headache in the long run!

Thanks for the advice! You were right; it turned out to be a faulty battery sensor. Had it replaced at the shop, and it cost me 315€ including labor. No more discharged battery or weird error messages!
