Peugeot 607 CEL and Fuel Consumption
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Peugeot 607 diesel is experiencing a check engine light (CEL) and increased fuel consumption, suspected to be due to faulty inlet VANOS mechanics. The air filter and MAF sensor were checked without resolving the issue. A suggestion was made to inspect the camshaft solenoid valves and their power supply, as electrical issues could be the cause. After reading the fault codes, a faulty VANOS solenoid was identified and replaced, resolving the problem.

Interesting. So, you reckon it's more likely to be electrical than mechanical then? Was your check engine light on and fuel consumption increased? What fault code were you getting?

Yes, CEL illuminated and fuel consumption was up. I would go to the workshop to read out the fault codes. The fault code will give a good indication if the fault is in the VANOS mechanics.

Thanks for the tip! I had the codes read, and it pointed to a faulty VANOS solenoid. Replaced it and the issue is gone. Cost me about 250€ in total. Appreciate the help!

I had similar symptoms on my 607. Check the camshaft solenoid valves and their power supply. A defect there could cause those issues.
