Peugeot 607 Diesel Engine Power Loss
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Peugeot 607 diesel is experiencing power loss, poor engine response, a whistling noise during acceleration, stalling when idling, and increased fuel consumption. These issues are suspected to be related to a boost pressure actuator fault or possibly a defective electrical bypass valve. The suggested solution is to check the pressure sensor and turbo system for leaks, and ultimately, the boost pressure actuator was identified as the problem and replaced, resolving the issues.

Thanks for the quick response! Where exactly is the pressure sensor located, and how would I check for a boost leak? I'm not very experienced with car mechanics, but I'm willing to give it a try before taking it to a workshop.

The pressure sensor is usually near the turbocharger, but honestly, if you're not comfortable with mechanics, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. A faulty actuator valve can cause more damage if not addressed correctly. It does sound like a defective electrical bypass valve to me, so I'd get it checked.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were right – it was the boost pressure actuator. They replaced it for 250€, and now it runs like new. I really appreciate your help!

I had something similar with my 607. Check the pressure sensor and the turbo system for any leaks. The symptoms you described match what I experienced when my turbocharger actuator valve started to fail. Have you checked for any obvious signs of a boost leak?
