Thanks for the quick response! I haven't tried cleaning the DPF myself. Honestly, I'm not really sure how to do that properly. As for the regeneration, I thought these cars did that automatically? Could it be failing to regenerate properly? Any tips on checking that?

Attempting a manual DPF cleaning can be risky without the right equipment and knowledge; you could potentially damage it further. As for regeneration, yes, it should happen automatically, but it can fail if you mostly do short trips at low speeds. Given the age of your Peugeot and the symptoms, a visit to a workshop equipped to diagnose and potentially replace the DPF would be my advice. It’s best to get a professional opinion.

Thanks a bunch for the advice! I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on. Turns out the DPF was indeed defective. Got it replaced, cost me about 1550€, but the car is running like new again. Appreciate you helping me diagnose the problem!

Your symptoms sound very familiar. I had almost the exact same problem with my old Opel Insignia – loss of power and smoke. In my case, it turned out to be a clogged DPF causing excessive backpressure. Have you tried cleaning the DPF or looked into its regeneration cycle?
