Peugeot 607 Incorrect Vehicle Coding Error

My 2001 diesel Peugeot 607 is throwing a hissy fit. It has 146217 km and the malfunction indicator lamp is on. I'm getting error messages on the infotainment and speedometer display. OBD-II scanner says it's a fault code related to incorrect vehicle coding. Anyone seen this before?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar drama with my 607. Same symptoms – error messages everywhere. Was yours after a battery change?

Good shout! Yeah, I did swap the battery out last week. Could that really scramble the coding that badly?

Bingo. That'll be it. The 607's computer is a bit sensitive and needs to be told about the new battery. You'll need to get it hooked up to diagnostics and have the coding reset by someone who knows their stuff. Probably best to take it to a garage with the right gear.

Spot on! Took it to a workshop, they recoded the control module, and boom, problem solved. Cost me 360€, but at least the errors are gone. Thanks a bunch for the tip!
