Peugeot 607 Oil Level Sensor Faulty

Hi, I'm experiencing issues with my 2001 Peugeot 607, gasoline engine, mileage 208272 km. The error message "oil level sensor faulty" keeps popping up on the speedometer. The error is also stored in the error memory. Sometimes the warning light comes on, and occasionally the oil pressure warning lamp lights up as well. I've checked the obvious things like the oil level itself, which is fine. I suspect it might be the cable or plug connection to the sensor. Anyone else had this?

Strange, I have a 607 too, and had similar symptoms. It's like your car is crying wolf about the oil! Did you check the sensor itself? Could be a faulty sensor sending false signals. Before you tear apart the wiring, have you tried cleaning the sensor connectors? Sometimes a little corrosion can cause havoc.

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't checked the sensor itself directly, just the oil level via the dipstick. Where exactly is the oil level sensor located on the engine? And how easy is it to access? Is it something I can do myself, or am I better off taking it to a workshop?

It's usually located on the lower part of the oil pan. Access can be a bit tricky depending on your engine configuration – it's like reaching for the last cookie in a jar. Honestly, if you're not comfortable working under the car, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. My issue turned out to be a faulty sensor, and after replacing it, everything was back to normal. Cost about 100€.

Thanks for the info! I appreciate you sharing your experience. I'll take it to a workshop and have them check the sensor and wiring. Looks like the repair cost will be around 95€, so pretty much what you said. Hopefully, that will fix it. Cheers!
