Peugeot 806 Coolant Loss
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Peugeot 806 was experiencing coolant loss, with the check engine light indicating a coolant issue. Initial checks of the radiator and hoses showed no leaks, leading to speculation about the water pump. Further advice suggested checking for leaks near the water pump or head gasket and considering a pressure test. Ultimately, the problem was identified as a faulty coolant reservoir cap, which was replaced to resolve the issue.

I haven't checked the head gasket. Where should I look for coolant near the water pump? Can I do a pressure test myself, or do I need special equipment?

Look for dried coolant residue near the water pump. DIY pressure test kits exist, but professional equipment gives more accurate readings. Considering the error message and coolant loss, a workshop visit might be more efficient. I had a similar issue on my old Citroen, and it was a hairline crack in the expansion tank.

I took your advice and brought the Peugeot to a mechanic. The coolant reservoir cap wasn't sealing properly, causing slow evaporation and triggering the low coolant warning. A replacement cap cost 52€ and fixed it. Thanks for your help!

Given the age and mileage, a coolant leak is likely. The error memory confirms it. Have you checked for coolant near the water pump or the head gasket? A pressure test might reveal a slow leak. How often do you refill the coolant?
