Peugeot 806 oil pressure warning
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Peugeot 806 diesel is experiencing an oil pressure warning light and loud mechanical noises, despite having an adequate oil level. The issue could be due to a failing oil pump, but it might also be caused by old or incorrect oil affecting viscosity. It is advised to check the oil condition and consider a recent oil change, but given the noises, a prompt inspection by a mechanic is recommended to prevent further damage.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the oil viscosity specifically, and I can't remember when the last oil change was exactly, but it has been a while. Could that really be the cause of both the light and the noises?

Potentially, yes. While it might be more serious like the oil pump or even engine bearings, start with the easy stuff. However, given the noises you're hearing, I'd strongly suggest getting it checked by a workshop sooner rather than later to prevent further damage. My issue ended up being a faulty oil pump, so don't delay. Cost me 755€ in the end.

Thanks. I appreciate the advice. I'll get it checked out by a mechanic ASAP. I'm fearing the worst, but hoping for the best. I'll post what I find after the inspection.

Sounds like low oil pressure alright. I had a similar issue with my 806 a while back. Before jumping to conclusions about the oil pump, have you checked the oil viscosity or when the last oil change was? Sometimes old or incorrect oil can cause this.
