Peugeot 806 power steering problem

Hi, I'm having trouble with my 2002 Peugeot 806 (gasoline engine). The power steering feels off. The steering wheel vibrates, and the handling is spongy. I checked the error memory and there's a stored error. Steering requires more effort now, the power steering seems to be failing. Any ideas?

I had similar issues with my 806. Does it feel like the power steering is cutting in and out? Have you checked the hydraulic fluid level? It could also be related to a bad connection somewhere in the system.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the hydraulic fluid level yet, will do that. Where exactly should I be looking for these connections? Could it be something simple like a loose plug?

It's hard to say exactly without seeing it, but I'd start by visually inspecting all the wiring and connectors related to the power steering pump and the steering rack. Given the error in the memory, and the symptoms you describe, there’s a good chance it is a faulty connection somewhere. But I would recommend that you take it to a workshop if you don't know what you are doing.

Thanks for the advice! Turns out, like you suspected, it was a defective cable/plug connection. The workshop identified it quickly; the total repair was 95€. Appreciate the help!
