Peugeot 806 transmission oil temperature sensor issue
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Peugeot 806 diesel is experiencing issues with the engine warning light, rough shifting, and a grinding noise, linked to an error regarding the transmission oil temperature sensor. The problem may be caused by low gearbox oil levels, which can trigger the sensor error and lead to the gearbox entering an emergency mode. Solutions include checking and topping up the gearbox oil and potentially replacing the sensor, which resolved the issue in this case.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did check the oil level, and it seemed okay at a glance, but maybe I need to double-check more thoroughly. When you say "similar issue", do you mean the exact same symptoms and error code, or just generally rough shifting? And yes, it does seem worse when the engine is cold.

Yes, same symptoms and error code. Double check the gearbox oil level, it may be low, which may be the cause for the error. If the oil level is ok, you should go to a specialised workshop to check the transmission sensor. It could also be a problem with the automatic transmission itself.

Thanks a lot for the help. I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on – the gearbox oil level was indeed too low, causing the sensor to freak out. They topped it up and replaced the sensor as a precaution. Cost me 365€, but it's running smoothly again. Cheers!

I had a similar issue with my 806. Same symptoms: warning light, rough shifting. Does it happen more when the engine is cold? Have you checked the gearbox oil level?
